GENOTYPE AND PARENTAGE TEST FOR PIGEONS
The test determines the genotype and parentage relations through comparison with the parents'genotypes. For the selected pigeon, send Blood in EDTA tube or 5 feathers plucked with quills. For the parents, send certificates from other laboratory (minimum 12 ISAG markers) or biological samples (blood or feathers). If parents were already tested by our laboratory there is no need to send samples.
DNA gives your animal a unique and indelible genetic fingerprint. By genotyping, the laboratory determines the genetic fingerprint of each animal, with the molecular markers recommended by the ISAG (International Society for Animal Genetics). Genotype is performed with blood or feather samples. Results in 7-10 working days. Select samples : Blood in EDTA tube or 5 feathers plucked with undamaged quills.
DNA gives your animal a unique and indelible genetic fingerprint. By genotyping, the laboratory determines the genetic fingerprint of each animal, with the molecular markers recommended by the ISAG (International Society for Animal Genetics) and in a second phase, confirms or not the parentage relations through comparison with the genetic profiles of the supposed parents of the animal.
The biological parentage is based on the analysis of polymorphic heritable characteristics from one generation to another. In a first stage, those features consisted in the study of blood groups (hemotipos), which due to its limitations and technological advances were replaced by analysis of variable regions of DNA (called STR or Short Tandem Repeats). Its main feature is the high degree of polymorphism which gives a unique genotype for any animal, even with a high degree of consanguinity.
The analysis process involves the characterization of a sufficiently high number of STR as to ensure a unique identification for each individual. To this end, DNA from blood, hair or other biological traces of the animal is amplified. Starting from this DNA amplification it is performed by an enzyme reaction (PCR) and subsequently amplified fragments are resolved in capillary electrophoresis. As a final result of the process, a unique profile of markers is determined for each individual, which is a combination of the DNA of their ancestors and some of it will be transmitted to their offspring. Following this basic principle, you can confirm or not parentage relationships based on the compatibility of selected DNA markers.
