Pack of 50 Psittacosis tests.

Psittacosis is caused by a bacterium called Chlamydia psittaci or Chlamydophila psittaci. It affects the respiratory tract; and it can be transmitted to human beings causing pneumonia. If your bird is having breathing problems, you should have it checked for this respiratory disease. 

Samples needed:

cloacal swab: Use a cotton swab. Introduce it in the bird cloaca and rub the interior quickly. Let it dry for 30 minutes and place it in the lid or plastic bag. 

oropharyngeal swab: Use a cotton swab. Introduce it in the mouth of the bird and rub it arround the trachea.

Results in 7-10 working days
